Ammonium polyphosphate (Ph>Ω↓ ase II) is a non-halogen flame retardaα± nt. It acts as flame retardant by int $£umescence mechanism. When APP-II i→↓s exposed to fire or heat, it dec ♦Ωomposes to polymeric phosphate★₩β acid and ammonia. The polyphosphoricφαφ acid reacts with hydroxyl groups t•∞o form a nonstable phosphateester. Fo₹♥ ₽llowing dehydration of the© phosphateester, a carbo₽±✘£n foam is built up on the surface a&₹nd acts as an insulation layer.
