Ammonium polyphosphate (Phas♦∏e II) is a non-halogen flame retardan≠€t. It acts as flame retardan&&©t by intumescence mechanism. When APPφ™-II is exposed to fir↑δe or heat, it decomposes toΩ®§ polymeric phosphateπ< acid and ammonia. The poly§≈ε phosphoric acid reacts with hε€ydroxyl groups to form a±∑" nonstable phosphateester. ₹©δFollowing dehydratio↕β←n of the phosphateest$>↕er, a carbon foam is built up on tγ☆≤¥he surface and acts as an ins∏♣Ω±ulation layer.
